I spotted the lion at about 800 yards in the soybean field I hunt. It was moving slow down the fence line and I just assumed it was a lone boar. I made my way out to cut it off when I started getting close I realized I could not see it with night vision so I thought it was a deer. I looked through the thermal scope and there it was still walking slowly about 100 yards in front of me. I thought it was a bobcat until I saw how long it was between the fence post and could see the tail in the thermal. Just as I hit record it went under a fence down to a pond on the neighboring land. I waited about 45 minutes and it never came back out. Thermal is a game changer on these their camouflage does not work at all.

As good as night vision can be, thermal just adds another level that takes away the last bit of stealth that some animals have. Unfortunately, the cost puts the combination out of reach of most hobby hunters.

There I fixed it for you!
LOL Decades ago, dad was working in Anchorage as a cement finisher... he worked with a guy who went by "Jimmy the Cricket" who LOVED rabbit. Long story short, dad cooked up an alley cat for him... said it was the BEST rabbit he'd ever eaten.

That is very true, I think most oriental restaurants serve mystery meat, so you may be right!

I've called in a bunch of doe deer and cow elk with the distress call.

But one day, I was calling bear, thick woods. I see brown, damn another cow elk, but until it was 30 yards running at me did I realize it was a brown phased bear. I was using a S&W 629 44 Mag, had it stitting on the log in front of me. When you have a bear 30 yards in front of you running, you aren't very stealthy at trying to grab your pistol lol. He jetted off and I had no good shot on him running.

Took several minutes for my heart rate to drop below 200 beats per minute after.

I hope I never have to deal with a polar bear charging from 30 yds. ! Watched a youtube once of a guy armed ONLY with his video camera, dealing with a predatory black bear doing a deliberate and steady/slow pressing march on him. He survived without being attacked. Amazing footage though.
