This has to be one of the most frustrating hunts I have been on in a long time. The first three times we got onto pigs, they disappeared on us. The first ones seemed to have walked behind a small grove of trees and vanished. They weren't in the grove and the rest was open field. Weird. The third group (shown in opening of video) was moving in and out of high grass between two fields and finally moved back into the high grass and never returned. There was no moon and the winds were blowing up to 20 mph at that point (storms just north of us) and were in our favor. As the hogs were still several hundred yards away when we lost them, I think they were just foraging and their path just happened to take them away from us - bad luck.
When we finally made a successful approach on some hogs, it was in a lowland field where the mosquitoes were ravenous and aggressive. Deep Woods OFF and multiple layers of clothing were not a significant barrier to these guys. Winds had calmed a bit, but were no impediment to them when the winds were gusting. One even got me through my baseball cap! I had over 30 bites on my chest, arms, face, and neck. No telling how many more on my back side.
I had two malfunctions, different mags, not sure why. Rounds appeared to crash into feed ramp, blunting the tips of the SST ammo at an angle, and stick there. Previous round had ejected. Looks like some diagnostic range time is in order...
