Favourite AR15 hog hunting calibers, what’s next?

Hanging out on vacation in the rain and getting bored. Spreading too much time on the iPad. I came across this picture and decided to post this topic. When I hunt hogs I walk my property going from feeder to feeder so I like the lighter AR15 over the heavy AR10. When it comes to the AR15 I have had good success with the 6.8 and the 450 Bushmaster over the years. The last couple of years I added the 300 HAM’R and the 350 Legend just because I like to buy rifles and try new rounds! They have also done a great job on hogs.

When hunting I like to use the heavy bullets. These calibers I have used 120gr-250gr bullets with great results. The 6.8 and HAM’R are great all purpose AR15 hunting calibers. The 450 and 350 are just fun to shoot and really drop the hogs.

I’m thinking I may need a new AR upper and can’t think of what I should add to what I already have. Thoughts? Damn rain is going to cost me money.

My favorite calibers are my 6.8 and my 458 socom. I also have 30hrt, 223, 50 Beowulf, 358 Winchester, 308, 358 mgp and 450 bushmaster. I’m the same way, I keep adding calibers to the collection. I have 6 complete lowers left to build out

Same. Have a 6.8, 224 Valkyrie a couple 458 socoms and just traded off a 300bo. Not sure what else I want, have 2 lowers waiting for a mate.
I will say right now I can't go without the 458 Socom, it is such a hog killer and fun to shoot, but...the 224 Valkyrie is really an unknown cartridge to most and is close to my favorite gun.

I am the same way. I will never be without my 458 socom. I love that I have loads from 100gr to 525gr. Every one is accurate. I’m saving now for another 458

Only stringent self control, and my wife, keeps me from adding more AR calibers. I have a couple of 6.8s, 5.56, .223 Wylde, a couple of 7.62x39s and one of my favorites is my 25-45 Sharps.

I am hooked on Steinels' 300 gr JHP (Jacketed High Power) They cycle perfectly and so far every round on hogs has been the only 1 needed. Most of my shots are marginal really because they are mostly moving through brush or in and out of trees type of situations so I usually take the first opening I think I can sneak one through. It's a recipe for unrecovered hogs so finding a sledge hammer is a good thing. I would like to try some big grain stuff though.

I have a box or 2 of those. They work great. I also like the different 300gr hollow points like the remingtons. There’s a lot of bullet choices out there. I need to redo the picture so the discriptions are clearer but here’s some of what I have.

not my photo, it’s off the socom forum, but here’s a look at the 525 pile driver. This this is a true hammer that will hit hard.

Where do you put the powder? lol

It doesn’t take a lot of powder to get that bullet moving. Pressure goes up really fast. I would have to check my notes for the charge but I mostly use reloader 7 for all my 458 socom loads

.308 is King.

7.62x39 will do anything you need inside 100 yards.
I like my 458’s 500’s 45/70’s but they are impractical for the pest control I do.
