LONE BOAR DOWN . . .

Planned a hunt several nights ago with a buddy to the freshly planted peanut fields.
I cancelled because I didn't feel well.
My buddy noticed this load boar coming up a well established path into a 40A peanut field. He cut him off using his electric buggy. The hog was steadily moving streight towards him and he did not want to take a head on shot.
At 75 yds the hog made a hard left turn and presented the perfect broadside shot.
At the shot, the hog ran but he soon found him dead using his thermal. The hog went about 50yds.
My friend was shooting his RARR chambered in 300BLK. He was using the Barnes 110gr black tips (30321). The shot was on the shoulder and took the heart and major blood vessels. His thermal is an older (well made) ATN ThOR 320.
This boar hog weighed right at 300lbs. ---- pruhdlr 27790.jpeg

NICE !!! Don't forget to add it to the hog count thread. Every dead hog counts. Congrats to your buddy, hope you're feeling "more gooder".

This hog taped (correctly) was 49 3/4. Weighed on deer scale was 302'ish.
Suggested to shooter to join this forum but he is a Navy instructor pilot and is always extremely busy with kids and livestock. ---- pruhdlr

Interestingly - -> these are the same set of fields that me and my night hunting buddy have killed 10-12 boar hogs that scaled >250lbs. Four of those were >270lbs.
Big sows also. Some have been >215lbs or so. Also in these set of fields, extremely few piglets (footballs with raceing stripes) are ever seen. Tons of shoats though.
These fields (6 X 120A each) are rotated yearly between cotton, peanuts, and soy beans. Off to the sides of these fields is wetlands with thick viney bottoms and plenty of cover.
These fields have been hunted exclusively by the three of us for the past 6 years. We all target with thermal and my night hunting buddy and I both have handheld thermal scanners (Pulsar).
Two of us shoot 300BLK's and I shoot a 6.8SPCII. Typically,if we target a hog out into these fields about 100yds,we put the bullet on the shoulder and allow him to run. The typical distance is 30yds. Some are DRT. A higher shoulder hit frags the spine.
If the hog is closer to the edge of the fields we shoot a CNS shot to keep him from entering "no mans land". (THE SWAMP)
Good hunting to all. And thank you for your stories and info over the years. --- pruhdlr

And we got a sod farm that acquired some property next to where we hunt. They will be planting about 40A of that puttin' green stuff.
Boy oh boy do they have a surprise coming.
Thought about applying for a hog security job there.
With all the nutrients they use, gonna draw the hogs like a magnet. ---- pruhdlr
