New hog hunter learning the ropes.

I'm new to hog hunting. A friend in AL who's just bought some property there has a significant hog problem. So, I'm helping him out with mitigation and have come here to learn the ropes, tip, tricks and tactics.
Thanks Todd for all the awesome free information.
Respectfully,
Sam

Indeed, its going to be fun. If only I were a richer man. It seems in this realm, one can quickly catch a case of GAD (gear acquisition disorder).
DO you all book hunts out there in TX?
Thanks,
Sam

The only hogs (here) in Seattle are the one wearing the pink hats with ears. No open season on those either. What's a feller to do?

Sam, If you can find ammo, buy all you can and get to shootin'. That's one way to get rid of them.

Hunt into the wind. Pigs sence of smell is probably better than any animal out there. They see as good if not better than you do, day or night. Use the shadows day or night to close the distance on them. Pigs seldom stand still. Go for neck instead of headshots.

Hogs are similar to coyotes in that - -> You can fool a hogs hearing with calls. You can fool a hogs sight with camouflage. But a hog ALWAYS believes their nose.
Never underestimate a hogs eyesight. They can smell far better than a whitetail. They are one of the most intellegent animals on the face of the earth. (Number five I believe.)
CNS shot for no tracking. Otherwise, put it ON THE SHOULDER. Never behind it. Use enough gun . . . and bullet.

“GAD” I love it! I think I have that like 100x between hunting, climbing, scuba diving and amateur radio.
Welcome to the fray. If you’re looking for a guided hunt check out hogswat.com. I hunt on my own property in Texas but after talking to Hal, I think I’m going to book with these guys to learn.

Tomorrow I'll be ordering my first Thermal optic. And looking forward to getting into the fray.

This past time can be extremely expensive... i'm not deterring from gettin the expensive gear but i've had to learn to settle for the cheapo gear in order to maintain lol. So far I feel like I've been lucky but if the pockets were fuller I would be throwing money at some of these high speed low drag equipment.

Funny you brought up about there sense of smell. Was hunting 2 weekends back after putting in hog panels around my feeder, hog came in and got within 10-15 ft of my feeder and high tailed it out after taking a sniff. I thought for sure it was obviously the sweat I left behind installing the panels so I told myself don't go to the feeder before the next hunt. Fast forward a week later, stayed away from the feeder but did go and grab my cam card 15 feet south of the feeder. Hog came in and again stopped 10-15 feet from the feeder and again put his wheels in i'm outta here gear. I mean we were still able to smoke a few 50 pounders, but those old brutes... they know, oh they know.
