This morning I heard a familiar whistle. It was my Tahoe calling to me, it was itching to go for a drive. Before I knew it, my trusty rig had pulled into the P-Lot of my favorite LGS about 10ish miles away. The owner has always sat in the rear/left corner of the store to greet folks as they enter. It was always a pleasure to greet Bruce. No Bruce, he passed away last January. He will be missed.

I began my usual deposit of drool on the glass cases when my eyeballs popped out and nearly shattered the glass (most embarrassing when this happens. Flaunting her beautiful curves at me was a fine 29-2 in nickel... Target hammer/trigger/stocks, R/R and WOL sights, in 6". From eyeballing it, only a faint line on the cylinder from someone not being careful enough. The front of the cylinder looked to have only the factory test firing remains on two bores, and no wobble from an idiot trying to "Charles Bronson" the cylinder shut. Wooden presentation box included, no lining. From the serial number, it's a 1980 vintage honey.

Just below it, was a 25-15 in .45LC. Blued and N.I.B. It was nice, but lacked the smooth as butter refined feel of the 29-2, and has the dreaded lock on the frame. The $700 price difference had me eyeballing the 25, but, it just didn't measure up to the 29's sex appeal.

I HATE WA State's mandatory 10 day waiting for them... but, the clock is ticking. This is a likeness of mine, mine's still in jail. Yeah, this is what I get for buying up some HKS Speed Loaders for one of these a while back. LOL

Very nice pistol! I hate it when a gun just jumps at you like that. I have a weakness for the model 25, I really like the 45 LC. Carried one as my duty rig for awhile. No doubt a hard choice. But in today’s market nice to have a choice. Especially a choice that doesn’t involve plastic.

The feel in hand of the 25 y was really nice. The shape of the grip was very good as well. But, it was that double action trigger pull that set the two apart from one another, and that damned frame lock they use now. The refinement of the double action pull on that 40 year old 29 was just too sweet. I was even able to get them to drop $100 from the asking price (consignment piece). Heaven help me if I find an OLD 25 that's as sweet pulling as this 29 is.

Sometime around 1970, my Dad gave me a Model 57 Smith. Presentation box the whole kit. Beautiful weapon. Love that pistol. The double action pull is so smooth and the single action breaks like glass. It is a work of art. Most of my Smiths are older guns. You can tell the difference. The 57 has the 8 3/8 s inch barrel. Hard to carry but very accurate. I hope you will be happy with your new friend!

What a fine gift from your father ! Agreed, the older ones were pieces of art inside. I have a 40ish year old 686 (no dash) that I purchased new when I went to work as a cop. That thing has been like butter from day one.

I had a 629 from about 35 years ago, traded it towards a fairly new snowmobile. I've kicked myself more than once over the years for that decision. It too was nice, but not as nice inside as my 686. This one is the same 6' barrel as my 629, but is nickel. The double action pull on it is very sweet. I'm looking forward to comparing it to my 686.

I've already ordered an Alaskan Guide holster for it, from Diamond D Custom Leather. The funny part of it is, a month or two ago, I purchased some HKS Speedloaders for a 29. I sort of sparked my motivation to begin looking. First one I found ended up being the one. One day down, nine to go for it to be ready to be released from jail.
