With the storms blowing into SE OK last night, I wanted to get out ahead of them and check for hogs in a couple of places. Unfortunately for me, I got out a bit too late and the lightning was already here by the time I got into my truck.
So I went to two of the closest places. As soon as I pulled off the highway into the second ranch, I dimmed the lights and stopped. I then spent the next minute getting my gear together and fired up the thermal on my rifle before walking around the front of my truck and down the lane to the pasture. I thought I heard a pig grunt, but ignored it as you always "hear" animals you are hunting.
To my surprise there were three hogs right in front of me at only 20 yards when I cleared my truck! I didn't even take the time to set up or NUC (correct) my thermal. I simply hit record and fired as soon as two hogs lined up. They dropped, and I managed to hit the third twice before it got too deep in the greenbriars.
To date this is my fastest hog hunt, and shortest distance dragging a carcass!
