TAC 30 Barks Again

After having to put an awesome dog to sleep, I went through a period of not wanting to kill anything and avoided hunting altogether. We went on a three week trip to visit grandkids and when I got back, I decided to see what has been happening around my feeder. As it turns out, a very nice boar had taken up residence and pretty much run everything else away and was very consistent with his timing. I thought, what the hell, he looks like he deserves to be killed and I waited for his appointed time to come to dinner. Sure enough, he was right on time and I spotted him about 200 yds out in the pasture heading straight for the feeder. I thought about shooting him before he ever got to the feeder, but there are some VERY soft spots and I didn’t want to take a chance on increasing my work load by having him die in one of those mud holes. When he got to the feeder, he just continued walking straight through the area and right into the woods. I thought I had blown it, but history was on my side as he was spending 45 to 60 minutes at the feeder every night. True to form, he re-appeared within seconds. The video picks up from there. He taped out to 205 lbs. I’m loving the way this TAC 30 puts hogs down with authority from a light weight AR15 platform.

I didn't open him up to examine the damage, but this round has been impressive. It wasn't an ideal CNS hit, in fact, it was low front of the chest which should have put it through the heart. Wherever it managed to hit, it did the job pretty well.

I have those moments ... especially when life gets in the way. But when I'm in the woods I enjoy it! Good boar down ... pretty solid one to boot!
