Been A While

I had been at our place since Tuesday and had got a hog Tuesday night and one more Wednesday night but due to careless user error, no video of either. Thursday and Friday were rain days.

Its still surprising to me that the hogs are basically nonexistent relative to the last few years. In fact, as I was gearing up for my last hunt night, I looked at my 10rd Pmag and considered whether I should just roll with 4 rounds (6.8). I thought better and loaded up in the wheeler and set forth.

Wind was very light if any and seemed to be out of the south. I was heading about 5 miles north so didnt have high expectations for the first leg. After checking the usual spots I got about halfway through to my farthest north spot and slowed to scan. I dont usually see anything in this area but noticed a couple hogs right at the edge of the road. I started a stalk but they moved off and I lost them in the weeds.

I eased on up the road 50 yards or so and scanned my next fields that lie across a creek to the north. WHOA! a sounder of 6 hogs and a bunch of piglets. I haven't seen that big a group in a year. I put the stalk on 'em and get to about 150 yards before a couple of them seem to be sniffing a bit much ( :30). At :50 another sow is looking directly at me and I decide that between the wind and the moon, I was good where I was at and let the lead/copper fly.

I hadn't burned through a 30 rd magazine in quite a while and that was quite satisfying especially with something to show for it. With the piglets still hanging around, I had the idea that I would go back to the wheeler, get another magazine and try some sow sounds from my caller app to see if I could lure them back. I get to the wheeler and in the passenger seat where my ammo bag always sits, sits nothing. The first time ever, I have forgotten my ammo bag back at camp.

I ended up with a pretty good size sow and 2 mediums along with three piglets. Sure seemed like it should have been more of those little bastards but they seem to have some kind of matrix bullet dodging skills baked in.

I'm bettin' someone played a mean trick on ya and slipped a few blanks in there. Should've been more flat footballs. Congrats on getting some action.

Good shooting...I shot a couple of piglets running through a grass field, from the hip they were so close. I had two others run to my feet and I had to move back to shoot them, on this video 4 minutes in I shoot one while holding my gopro in one hand...They put up more of a fight after being shot than the big pigs, even all disfigured they keep crawling or kicking.....

The footage of the storm's lightning... reminds me of something I once heard. At the end of the graveside service, a distant storm flashed some lightning, the old gent looked at the parson and says: "Well, she's there. Now, she's HIS problem."

Looks like that dark sow may've been a working factory, fixin' to pop a load.
