Twofer & 3 More

Nearly four hours into my hunt last night and I had seen hogs (big sounder) next to a property I hunt, a smaller sounder on a property that I hunt (but then lost them when the landowner drove up to see how I was doing, LOL), and then finally on this property.

I have hunted this property a few times in the past. The cattle here are unpredictable. The bulls are protective and sometimes the cattle run away and sometimes they are very curious. Last night, the cattle were curious and some followed me on my stalk to the hogs. I had hoped to stalk beyond the cattle and have a 180 degree field of fire but because some came with me, I was limited to about 90 degrees. Even so, I managed to drop 5 hogs, the first two with a single shot. Twofers are always a bonus!

Thanks!

I am liking the Speer TNT 90 gr. bullets more and more. These are factory loaded by Federal (I don't reload), but I understand the bullets themselves are pretty inexpensive.

This was the third twofer I have gotten with these bullets, but all on smaller hogs. I have has overpenetration injury a hog behind the target more than once, but the 2nd hog not drop or necessarily seem to be particularly harmed. So, it works okay at shorter range, hitting the secondary target with numerous fragments.

As it turned out, I probably didn't need to triple shoot (#3) the one hog or double shoot (#4). The first shot on each should have been quickly lethal, but I didn't want to let the hogs get a chance to die out of sight. These rounds really do a lot of internal damage, most notably because of their fragmentation.

Yeah, but when they're still running …

If it's worth shooting once, it's worth shooting twice!

Always a bit of a let down when you know they're dead but lose them to the weeds. Couple weeks ago me and a buddy with a brand new 6.5 got on a lone boar. I let him take first shot and he knocked him down and I hit him again. Next thing, he's up and running through the beans to the woods. Lost him. :(
