Been working on getting this together for some time now!
Should get it to the range tomorrow for a little shakedown.
6 pounds, 9 ounces as pictured, empty without sights.

223 on left 325gr Hornady FTX and a few loaded in the magazine.
A 20 round magazine holds 7 - 458's...LOL!

The FTX is one of my favorite 458 rounds to shoot. Expands really well. I always keep about 100 of them loaded and ready to go

Went to the range with a good buddy today.
His Grandmother passed away early this morning and he was down clearing his head.

He had his *** 223 target crown AR and a new 45ACP Glock.
I took the Socom out for some exercise.

It ran pretty well but I still have a little tuning to do.
It locks back after the last round and feeds OK if you only load 2 rounds in the mag.
Anymore than that and it drags the bolt down enough to not cycle fully.
I'm sure it's just teething problems as it works if I only load 3 total and it strips off the first round by dropping the bolt release.

I ran a simple ballistics program that said I should have zero at 50 and 100 with the bullet/load I'm shooting.
Set up a target at 50 to get on paper.
First shot was high and right.
I did a lucky adjustment on the scope and put two thru the bull, just right of center at 50 yards.
We put some targets up at the 100 yard backstop and Zach ran thru a mag of 5.56 to zero and then rang some gongs.
I loaded up the SoCom and first shot hit 4 high and a little left.
I adjusted scope and hit 1" high with almost touching holes.
Adjusted scope again and hit little high and right, again almost touching holes.
Zach ran thru a couple of mags in his 45.
I adjusted the scope again and shot a 7 shot cloverleaf that was about 1 3/8 outside and those bullets are almost a half an inch in diameter!!!
Zach shot it 3 times and shot a pretty good group also, his first shot did surprise him as he had been shooting his 5.56 AR but the next two were touching.

I was using new Starline brass, .458 325gr Hornady FTX bullets, CCI Magnum LPPs, 37gr RL7 powder loaded to 2.22 OAL.
This should definitely be a pig smacker.

I was running the FTX and getting basically the same results at 100 yards. The only bullet I can't get to shoot that great is the 525 gr pile drivers. They open up to about 4" at 100 yards no matter what I do

I want to start another 458 but I might hold off until I can get more brass. I want to put in a 1000 piece order with starline if I can ever catch a time they are taking orders

Looks good Vern. If you decide to load 300gr TTSX, let me know, I'll dig up my load from the master, BW.
