I was invited to my buddies lease for Saturday night hunt and this mornings hunt and then back home. I wasn't going to go because I had stuff that needs done but....
So my friend goes to the blind I usually go to and I go to his. The land owner goes to his.
They are deer hunting , I am not, just because they don't have a bunch of shooter bucks so I am just there for hogs.
I settle in to the elevated blind and just get my stuff setup and kick back in the reclining office chair for a quick nap seeing how it is too early for hogs and quite warm out. I look out the window before nap time....I see a big black hog eating the corn I just dropped 5 minutes ago. He was on the far side of the fence about 125 yds maybe. Line up on his head and shoot. Not much to say...back of his head is pretty much gone. I like the 6.8.
He was 200# (40" around chest). Biggest one shot there since they bought the place 13 yrs ago. So they were a little surprised at the size, at the time of day he was out and the hogs usually come there real late. Nice!
So I go back out this morning after a heavy rain stopped, same blind. No action all morning. I am fiddling around with my binos and bored and look up and there is a big sow and a 40# er under the feeder, very late for them to be out. Under this feeder is a huge deep slop hole and she is in it. Oh well, take the head shot, she goes down and is under water(mud), he runs off I take a shot but scope is up to 9x so I have to crank it down on the fly trying to find him in the scope and hit him on a full tilt run at 100 yds+. So 2 more down today. Wasn't expecting it but it was fun. She spun around in her death throws long enough to emerge from the mud and closer to the edge so I was able to pull her slimy butt
out and she was Huge with babies inside, very bloated! Anyways. End of story.
