shooter picked up some Alexander Arms loaded Hornady SST 129 gr. in 6.5 Grendel and gave me a box to try out on some hogs. I was happy to oblige. At 100 yards, it had a very similar POI at the Federal American Eagle Speer TNT 90 gr. ammo I was using, so I didn't even have to make any changes. I set up things such that my first shots are the SST 129 and follow-ups are TNT 90s. I did not chrono the ammo from my rifle. AA reported a velocity of 2185 fps at 50 yards which gives this ammo a muzzle velocity a bit under 2300 fps from their 24" test barrel. I am using an 18" barrel.
Initial impressions are that this ammo appears to be working pretty much like you would expect SST bullets to work. Penetration is good and the bullet appears to be opening, though I have yet to recover one...
