Would be interesting if it could be done and maybe a 4x or 3. For long range identification.

I believe the objective could be removed and replaced from what I remember in one of the first videos on the trail - would be nice if they made a bigger lens as a standalone offering

The Helions lense can be removed, the Trail cannot.. not by user level anyway.
I have already looked into this exact idea awhile ago.
The answer I got... can it be done? Probably
But it would be expensive and the market small.. so dont expect it ever
to come to fruition as a off the shelf accessory.
I sent an inquest to a very credible NV / Thermal tech guy.. he hasnt responded
as of yet.

You would need a new Germanium lens and it would need to be set at the proper focal distance from the sensor. I am guessing ...a new coated lens will only cost you a $1500-2000.
The afocal 3x magnifier for the 1x IR Patrol is only $2500, so my estimate on the raw lens seems plausible.
Of course, you will need a housing if you are getting a larger lens. Never mind the voided warranty.
And once you have spent that kind of money you could have purchased a Trijicon.
