Pulsar Quantum 'City, Forest, and Identification' modes question

Do the city, forest, and identification modes actually have some other wizardry involved, or are they just preset brightness/contrast settings?

They are just presets. More that one brand has options like this and for the most part, I find them to be less than useful. There have been times the city setting has worked better in the woods than the forest setting, in my experience. As such, I prefer to adjust things manually. You can cycle through the settings and see if something works well for your situation, but the names of the presets are meaningless.
