Road Trip tomorrow !! Driving my buddy down to see his son, and the car he hand fabricated from sheet aluminum.

The car started as a kit car, stamped from metal in Poland and imported to the US. When the two halves were put together and they sighted down the middle from the hood ornament, the back window was an inch and a half off. It was considered JUNK on the spot. Someone bought the kit and hired the shop my buddy's son works at to "build it, make it right, finish it" and enter it into the Detroit Auto Show to compete for the "Ridler Award" (top honors, nationally). The shop owner called the young man into the office and asked him if he was up for the challenge. He accepted, and was assigned as Lead Fabricator for the project.

They won the Ridler Award in Detroit, and made the top six classification at the Chicago Show a week later.

I will bring home pix of the car. The cost to build was between $1M- $2M (wheels alone were $50K). The car owner has a spread in the San Antonio area. It's based off of a '32 Ford.

Gotta upload pix this evening after work. Got in late last night. The car won top honors in Portland, should be on its way to San Antonio last night (as I recall). Amazing car!! Three parts from an existing car... headlight lenses from a '34 Plymouth, dash from a '30 Nash, and dome light from a '31 Cadillac. Everything else on the car was hand fabbed... all aluminum 427CID mill.

Otay, Pix time !! As you can see, the car is owned by Buddy and Nancy Jordon (San Antonio, TX). I understand they're 80ish in age, cattle ranchers.

"Ridler Award" trophy for the owner is on the left, the shop's "Builder Award" trophy on the right.

All aluminum 427CID V8 resides beneath the hood.

The four wheels were one-off custom from a single block of billet aluminum, and cost $50K just for the wheels. As you can see here, what appears "black" in some pix, is actually a Black Cherry with Gold Flake.
