Making Sure They're Dead - Quality Assurance

I hunted at Elk Springs Ranch. Very little of this property is level and I decided to do a stalk across the property in hopes of surprising some hogs. A goodly distance from where I started and I spied a lone hog under a feeder and got my shot. Being hot, tired, and lazy...and realizing the truck was way back where I parked it...I figured it was worth an extra shot into the downed hog to make sure it remained where it was. No need to walk over to it and see that it was dead up close, LOL. Sure enough, when I returned with the truck, it had not moved.

The best part was, this was a pregnant sow. I is not often that I see lone sows. According to Frequently Asked Questions-Wild Pigs - Coping with Feral Hogs
If you see a large wild pig traveling alone, 101 times out of 100 it is a boar.

Lone feral sows are not commonly encountered. Often they will separate themselves from a sounder a few days before giving birth. I don't know that this one was that close, but maybe she was.

Only 6 piglets?? Your slipping up man!
Ah, more like the hogs aren't holding up their end of the deal …
Bonus Sow! Gonna use that term with my hunting buddies at the first opportunity.
Nice going!
