Hi guys.
I wonder if any of you has experiences using legholds for hogs?
Heard from a felow hunter this obviously to be not too uncommon?
Just curious how that should ever work....
I guess rather big traps would be needed? What kind of trap and set is used?
Thx.

The "Hold -A- Hawg" is the best designed trap I know of and the one I used.
The design is important so that metal cogs are welded on the trap so it does not close on a deer etc...
The trap does NOT catch the hog...the trap is set and a spring loaded snare is set around it with tension so when the hog steps on the plate it "flings" the snare up onto the leg and such is that you have yourself an ornery beast on the end of a piece of wire.
1/8" cable is used and I have had them twisted and gone in the morning.
The trap needs to be anchored with a chain to a tree or something sturdy. A fence post is not recommended unless you really like putting up new fence. They can rip out a pile of fence. You can anchor it to a big log too and let them drag it around, which isn't a bad way to go.
The worst part about it all is that your snare is shot after a catch and need to build more and they are a bit of a pain to make just the right size or they will fail.
