jagdterrior, hog dog ?

I got a jagdterrior to hopefully track wounded hogs, figured I'd train it pretty easy. We all know there is nothing worst than loosing a hog. Well took this 3 month old pup out and it was instant attack on a dead hog, took it to a trapped hog and it was the same results, no holds barred attack.
His name is bohrloch spur in German meaning bore tracker in English. He rides on a hood rack on my side by side and he has a great nose, proving it by alerting on hog at 1,200 yards with a 3 mph wind.
Has anybody here ever worked with one of the syco dogs? I just can't hardly believe the drive he has. Well this weekend we are making a little 11 hour drive to pick up him a girl friend that also had a killer blood line.
People have always asked me if I used dogs and I replied "I'm the dog". Haha I guess I'm getting older or smarter and actually using a hood dog that won't loose a blood trail. I'm having a lot of fun with this little dog.

It's funny the hounds just circle the hogs in most videos, the jagd's put in its straight on attack, lol. These lil 20 lb critters are scyo.

There is nothing better than a good working dog. I have a buddy that has been through 2 jagd terriers they were great dogs but they lost their lives to the hazards of south Texas ranch life and their lack of fear from anything. They are great dogs and one of the few breeds of working dogs we have left that haven't been ruined by breeders trying to mellow their temperament for show stock. If you research why some breeds are what they are, you will find out that at one time many of the most common breeds were originally bred for specific hunting tasks.

Inktristink, never heard of 'em. They don't appear to be equipped as a take down dog, is their roll more to distract and busy the hog in place to give the hunter the opportunity to finish off the animal? Love a dog with heart.

I ran those dogs for years. They are great around the house but get them in the country and the only thing they know is hunt!!! I imported a male from Germany from one of the original guys that help make the breed. These are great dogs. I know they are used for hogs and the reasoning is that if a hog hits them they just get flung up in the air because they do not weigh much and they come back for more. I would never use them for hogs myself, we used them for hole dogs on fox, and coon, and badger because they would go right in and grab stuff by the face and try to drag them out of holes, woodpiles, or what ever and then you would run into skunks also. I hate skunks!! had a friend that had a female that would go out of her way to get skunked or go fight a cat a 1/2 mile away. They still have trials in Groatia with these things and had an invite to go over with my male but never could get it together. Great dogs but sometimes they do not know when to quit. Their skin in tough as hide and they are one tough pup for their size!!! A doctor in Canada uses them for bear, says you do not have a good dog unless they run up and bite the bear in the butt!!! Hogs and beaver will kill these dogs in quick fashion, I have seen it happen more than once! I have pictures of my dogs and if I can load them I will post them later!! DOG DOG!!

They are great trackers, in Germany they use a ribbon in the collar and when they find game they pull the ribbon out and come back and get the hunter and lead them to the downed game. These are very versatile dogs!! Some day if you have pups you need to keep as many as you can because you will need back-up but if you would like to sell a pup for a reasonable price I would want one. BANG BANG!!

I am the one in the Green hoodie, the male pup is from Germany and the female with scares on her face is in my right hand. The dog on the left with white on his face is a mixed breed terrier (one of those white ones) and a male Jagd, he was a hunting fool but to big for most holes but in vacant barn and houses he was great!! HUNT HUNT!!

Here is a guy I wish I had never introduced into the sport. Before I could get this male and also another one that I had sold him he had lost the one I sold him and this one to beavers!! A beaver will fight on the way out but if cornered with no escape route they will do what it takes to get by the dog. The beaver have sharp teeth (DUH!!!) and will slice these things open in a hurry!!! Advice to degoganator get him afraid of rattle snakes. There are guys in Texas that will snake proof your dog (snakes with the fags pulled) if your dog kills the snake you have to pay for the snake and the training. Just an FYI!!

Thanks guys, yea I seen the high drive this dog has and decided that I need to use puppies out in the field. Save the sire and a few dams for breeding so I can keep a dog. Until that time I will keep bohrloch leased.

Just because I think I would get them a Kevlar jacket to protect your investment and the dog they are amazing. I would do,the same for bear dogs as well. Maybe carbon fiber since Kevlar is not resistant to puncture wounds.

I looked into those for some catahoulas and lacy dogs. I talked to a lot of people that ran cut collars and cut vests of all sorts. The one thing I heard from all of them was that if I was going too use something like that to make sure it was fully adjustable and not very thick or bulky as it would hinder the dog's ability to move and get away from a hog or other dangerous animal.

They are crazy dogs. There is a video on YouTube of one getting thrown about 15' by a hog and going back after it.

If I could get one to come to me I thought I was doing good and left it at that. Have a acquaintance that is running one of these as a dope dog and doing well. The Germans and Croatians know how to train these dogs and do very well at it. I have only seen one that was actually trained and of course he came from Germany. They are a blast though and great to have around the house, but get them in a car and take them to the country it is like a switch they only have one thing on their mind and that is HUNT!!! There is no such thing as a casual walk in the country with one of these because they are looking for something to grab!! BANG BANG!!
