Have been shooting for some time, but want to start night hunting hogs and other predators

That's the real question.

You can start just about anywhere. I began with an old .303 British Enfield bolt-action rifle, hunting mornings and evenings. Progressed to a better bolt-action, to an AR-15, and eventually an AR-10. They all worked, some are more fun. Likewise, game cameras, motion lights, NV optics, and eventually thermal followed.

It's all good, but the question is how much do you want to spend now?
