Haven't been out in quite some time due to all the rain, but after another 5" late this week I loaded up the Ranger and went to check new activity in some cut wheat fields. Spotted the first group with the X320 right off the bat and got to approx 100 yds away where a full drainage ditch prevented me getting closer. Tagged 3 and then waited a couple minutes and sure enough 2 more returned to the scene and got tagged. Interestink - the larger sow was a tripod - second 3 legged hog I've shot.
Then on through the mud & mosquitoes to another field where I spotted the next herd at work. Killed the Ranger, grabbed the triggersticks and got to within 50 yds or so before opening up. Shot the biggest sow first and she went down "right there" -assumed dead -and then moved on to the smaller stragglers. When the dust settled there were 4 down, but not the big sow. Evidently she had got up and made it into the brush without me noticing during the fray. I don't think she made it far, but I sure wished she would have stayed put as that would have brought my total to 10 for the night, which IMO may be the more difficult road to Sus Venatorship.
Also included is a pic of the coyote I shot today when I went out to look for the elusive zombie-sow. He was having pig for breakfast. 90gr Fed Gold Dot from 200yds, not fur friendly.
