Weird night last night. I did a daylight run of my properties to see where livestock was, new cultivation, etc. when I came across this house with a yard rooted all to hell and back. There is a pic in the vid that shows only the front part of the yard as the landowner didn't want his house shown. The rooting you see goes all the way up against the house on 2 sides. I don't have the gift of gab to just approach landowners very easily, but with the yard torn up like it was, I figured I had a good opening line and after a half hour of chatting and doing a thermal demo, he granted me permission to hunt.
We also put out 2 decoys with sow estrous urine on them to see if they would help attract and keep hogs in a field where we saw hogs last week. Interesting test, but inconclusive as the cattle in the field abused the decoys in manners unfit for open forum discussion. We did find a hog in the field by the now downed decoys, but when we approached, the cattle, that were previously bedded in the other direction, got up and stampeded across the field toward the hog. They have done this before in this field. I don't know if the cattle are trying to save the hog(s) or are just guano crazy, but after 3 passes of the cattle, the hog ran off the property. We ended up with a coyote as a consolation prize.
Later, hogs regrouped and were exiting the area as we were coming back to check the property. Having been involved in a couple previous collisions with hogs, we opted to let them cross the road without harassment.
