Bullpup SKS

In my intro thread, a member asked me to post a thread on my SKS build. It hasn't really started yet, but I thought that I would post some links so that whats what will be known.

Start with a run of the mill Chinese SKS. Everyone knows what they look like, so there shouldn't be a reason to psot a pic. Picked it up a few months ago

Add a Sherman Gun Works stock. It reduces the overall length of the SKS, and moves the weight closer to the shooter so that fatigue is reduced

Simple to not so simple examples at their site

Scope will be a Firefield 1-6x24

I read good reviews on AR15.com, so I thought I would give it a try. There are some things that I don't like about it, but I would be quadrupling the price tag to take care of those things.

Scope mount is like this one

I got it from ebay, but you can now find them at Walmart for about $30 without the 1" inserts

After the build is complete, or before, I haven't decided yet, I will be sending the trigger and bolt in for some work to Murray's Guns in Bowie, Texas. He has a special spring loaded firing pin to prevent slam fires, does trigger jobs, and can also do the bolt closed mag drop mod. Since the SKS was supposed to be loaded via stripper clips, the bolt itself holds the magazine in place via lips on the base of the bolt. And regarding 922R, the Chinese SKS has 14 parts. The bullpup stock will count as stock and handguard, and the Tapco magazine will count as two US made parts, so it will be 922R compliant.

Ammo will be Hornady SST, Herter's 154gr. soft point, Tula 123gr soft point, and Wolf WPA 124gr. hollow point that is supposed to have the famous 8n3 hollow point. If you don't know what the 8n3 hollow point it, it has a larger cavity, and has cuts inside the hollow point to aid in expansion. In other words, it will actually work like a hollow point, unlike most of the Russian hollow point ammo made.

The gun is being built for central and north Texas hunting, where shots are within 1-200 yards, where the 7.62x39 will still be effective, and most of the ammo should be minute of pig vitals.

Inktristink !! I have a pair of Norinco SKS (milled receiver). One's unmolested, the other has some early offered upgrades. I like the notion of a bullpup configuration for this nose-heavy platform.
