Back-To-Back Sounders

Ben and I finished off this weekend's hunt, getting into two sounders down in the lower pasture. With the vegetation ranging from knee to thigh high, it was tough to see the hogs and we certainly were not seeing the smallest hogs. We made several hits on the first sounder when I spied a second sounder and we abandoned our search for downed hogs and trekked across the field to get a shot at the second sounder. This worked out well in regard to shooting hogs, but not in recovering hogs. This was because once we walked away from the initial shooting area, we lost all points of reference and finding downed hogs was more about working a search grid across the field than it was about having some idea where the hogs were. Moreover, this group was freshly covered in mud. After getting home and reviewing the video, I realized that we were only searching in part of the correct area. Even so, it was still a productive night.
