I am mainly a dawn/dusk hoghunter with an occasional drive around using conventional spotlights. The expertise you folks have using night vision devices will be of special interest to me.

    85 Grain Barnes TSX 6.8

I use a weighed charge of 30 grains R10X, CCI41 primers, Fed brass, 85 gr Barnes TSX bullets and a little crimp with a Lee FCD. They are hog and deer killers. I get a chronographed average of 2930 fps with this load from an 18" Wilson Combat Barrel.

Why did you choose 6.8 SPC II for hog hunting?

The 6.8 SPC provides much better terminal performance on hogs than a .223 especially with 85 & 95 grain Barnes bullets, fast multi shot capability in an AR platform, and is an easy build. It's also decently accurate out to at least 250 yards. The down side is there are really only a few bullets...

    Magazine for the 6.8

I have several 6.8 mags, mostly from Stag because I cannot find a Magpul magazine made for the 6.8 SPC. Feeding from the Stag mags can be an issue. I think the problem is caused by the mag essentially being made for 223 bullets, so the front top edge of the mag (the horizontal part of the...

Pruhdlr, I have shot a lotta hogs with that same bullet. I have a 6.8 with an18" Wilson Combat stainless barrel. Velocity with 30 gr of R10X is about 2930 measured with my chronograph. Accuracy is good. I have successfully killed hogs up to about 300# with it. As with other cartridges, CNS shots...

I know that area pretty well, especially the area on the east side of 79 that used to be Moore's Pasture Wildlife Management area. Hogs on private land in Florida are the property of the landowner and may be hunted any time the landowner says it's okay. That's the great thing about hunting in...

Frank T, where you hunt is very interesting because I have a home in Bay County, Fl. I do not have any night vision devices, only a powerful green weapon light and typical optical scope. I toyed with the idea of buying a night vision device but decided that since my hog hunting trips are only...

My name is Grizz and I hog hunt in Texas, south of Houston. For those of you who like the 6.8, I am definitely in your camp. I also like Barnes Bullets, especially the 85 grain TSX and 95 grain TTSX. For 40 years I have been reloading my own ammo, and built my own 6.8 just for hog hunting. I...
