    SCAR 17 & Reap IR

I've been running a REAP and a Leupy VX-R 30mm Hog scope on a SCAR 17s for several years now. No problems. THAT SAID, I do run light-for-caliber bullets. 130 Hornadys currently. And my shot volume is wayyy lower than you Texas boyz I'm pretty sure. I think the problem with SCARs n scopes (if...

My first 3ish years with REAP-IR...

It makes the eyepiece stay on much better, IMO. To make reinstall easier I fold/roll it back on itself from the front of the inner tube section. It'll go on n off w/o that, but it seems to work better if the tube overlaps from the eyecup to the ocular of the device. Now I rarely use it at night...

    Reap Battery Options??

Just saw this after my long-winded thread. I've been running a lipstick charger on my REAP for several years so far. Haven't run out of power afield as of yet. It ain't "graceful", but it works fine. It was much "neater" when I had the extra cable wrapped the other way around the REAP. Had to...

My first 3ish years with REAP-IR...

Got a REAP-IR back when it was still IR Defense. It was my first thermal and a leap of faith at the price. After several years of field use I hafta say I have zero regrets with that purchase thus far. It was impressive to me when it arrived and I'm still impressed with it every time I use it...

    No Sus Venator for me!!

I hafta say I've been impressed thus far with their performance. I've got a coupla other firearms I wanna try this season but as it stands Momma's 6.8 is my goto. Wish I had a way to guesstimate her weight (the hog, I mean). d:^)

    No Sus Venator for me!!

For now. I think in the bottom pic the one with it's head in front of the tree is the one I shot but can't really tell if it's boar or sow. Big Momma has that humped back and shorter/wider face. But can't say that I'm sure about any of that, really. Either way they're some danged big hogs for...

    No Sus Venator for me!!

Hard head deer was loping across a new cutover. Wouldn't stop for anything but that 90gr Gold Dot @ 2800fps. Hehehe. Fat Girl didn't care for'em either.. scrmblr- She'd have gona a long ways t'wards replenishing the freezer! As it stands I'm just feedin yer ol' birds. Hehehe. d;^)

    No Sus Venator for me!!

Been seeing "Big Momma" on the gamecam for a week or so. Got'em patterned best I could and pulled a night shift in the climber. It spit rain and was very muggy. Sat there for 4 hours and finally got tired of the rain, humidity and skeeters. Been hearing hogs all over the woods but nothing in...

    6.8 SPC II and 115 GD's

    Ended up finding really nice, repeatable loads with 90gr GD's @ 2800 fps (H322, 2.290). Got ok (~1in) loads with 115 GD's @ 2450 (H322, 2.260) and 95gr TTSX's at 2780 (H4198, 2.24). This 16" PSA barrel shows a definite preference for the shorter bullets. The 115-n-95's did poorly seated long...

    Speer 90gr & 115gr Gold Dot bullets

Bump for 115 GD experience and real world load data. Looks like a great alternative to Barnes. Copper ain't gold. But if that's what it takes to NOT be eatin' lead m'self then so be it. Thanks.. d:^)

    6.8 SPC II and 115 GD's

Thanks for the testimony on the 115's. I loaded some 150's and 90's up last night after posting at different seating depths to see what would happen. From 2.26 to 2.29. What the hey, it's just more shooting. Hehehe. Some of the loads are the same with SD being the only difference. A couple that...

    6.8 SPC II and 115 GD's

Can't remember the exact reasoning, but somehow we ended up with 5 or so boxes of the 120gr SST's when Kris got the 68. Seem to remember reading somewhere that TLM tried the 90gr GD's and didn't care for'em much. Not sure how that bodes for the 115's. Haven't seen much about their performance...

    6.8 SPC II and 115 GD's

Rifle is a PSA 16" upper (FF forearm, SPC II 1:11) on a RRA lower w/Gieselle. DD collapsible for the lil flat that fits well in the rear bag. Game to consider is smallish (<200#) NC deer and hog that are mostly <250#. Ranges are from 'right there" to as far as ya feel froggy for. But I hate bad...

    Snake boots

Wore the Rockies the first coupla days of season and everything was peachy right up until both of'em started leaking. I can see the l'il bubbles comin outta the toe from between the layers when I walk. 'Least they didn't gimme blisters, tho'. d:^)

    Snake boots

Had ta look up a Diamond Knot but I'll give it a try. Frank- I seem to remember that if I got my laces tight enough I couldn't get my feet out with just the zipper undone but I'll try'em out again at deer camp this coming week.

    Snake boots

Walp, the Rockys seem to have shaped up a bit better after the drenching. Not sure what the secret handshake is with lacing'em up, but if a spend a few extra mins and get the lower laces pretty tight they haven't caused a blister last couple of times out piddlin around. It's kindofa rasslin'...
