West Texas hog and coyote hunt

(TYPO ALERT! I’d meant to put EAST TEXAS) I flew into Texas from nyc this past Friday and left Monday. I hunted in Anahuac on the first night and came upon a group of 5 board. Only one boar made it out alive. Saturday night I was referred to a guide who must not have understood my requirements for a hunt. I only like stalking and scanning large fields and cattle areas. When I showed up in Centreville at 3:30pm he wants us to take up a couple of blinds near feeders. I was NOT happy. At sunset I had him cruise the property and saw nothing but deer, armadillo and raccoons. Around 1am we surprised a sow and some piglets at a feeder. I took the shot and guess what? Earlier I confirmed my zero with 4 shots. Why are the odds that the 5th cartridge failed to feed? My rifle went CLICK and the sow was gone. Smh. Sunday night while hogless I managed to bag a big ol’ coyote. Sunday night I hunted with James and Chet of Southern Night Stalkers (look’em up on Instagram) in Snook TX and got to ride their custom “Pig Rig”. It’s a Cadillac Escalade fitted with a seating area on the top, 4 full swivel chairs with rifle rests, the ability to drive from up top and sound system connected to FoxPro calls. It’s amazing! Can’t wait to get back....

Yesssir!! I’ll be retiring there to Texas as soon as I retire... the Lord willing of course. I have 8 years to go. Until then I look forward to my trips there. If you ever have room for a very cool NY’er to join you on a hunt please keep me in mind. -Vito
