A little coyote action

So just before total darkness tonight I am riding around the peanut field looking for fresh rooting and I come around a corner and see the last of two piglets I’ve been whittling down about 150 yards away from me.

They were totally oblivious to me since I had my headlights off, so I got my shooting bag out and put it over the hood of my truck to make sure I could make a good shot.

Of course I failed to press the video record button but I will tell you exactly what happened here.

I heard the first shot hit, and heard the pig squealing so I immediately went after the second one which were running off and never did connect to it. A few seconds later I scan back to the first. To check its status and it standing up so I shot again, and missed it and it started running off. About five shots later I got lucky and finally dropped it.

When I got down the hill to the piglet I could see the first shot hit it in the back foot.

So about an hour after dark a coyote pops out of the tree line about 90 yards away and I missed that one.

I don’t think it was the same coyote but about 30 or 45 minutes later another one comes out ahead of me so I took off my foot to close the gap and got lucky and managed to record video so you can see what I’m talking about.

Looks to me like a missing to the left. Only thing I can think of is that I did not have my brass catcher on my rifle. And I do not know if the brass catcher could possibly change the harmonics of the weapon and throw a shot I’ve never tested that before.

I’ve never had any trouble with my pulsar scope and I do have the newest firmware installed which is supposed to deal with temperature point of impact issues.

I forgot to mention, the shot that dropped him was 255 steps away. The prior shot that finally connected was about 75 steps closer.

Still think I’m missing to the left because that piglet back leg would have been left of point I was aiming at.

Update. It looks like I did record the video after all but didn’t know it and in the video came out garbled.

Does Anyone know why pulsar videos sometimes look like this? I didn’t realize I hit record while zooming in and I know I powered off the scope before I ever attempted to pause or and the video manually. Guessing that’s the reason but I don’t know for sure.

Didn’t know I recorded this miss either.

Hahahahaha

Someone mentioned on YouTube that I jerked the trigger.

Yes. It did like like the jerk behind the trigger, jerked the trigger on the last video.

But I may have had the last laugh. The coyote I shot popped out about 250 yards away from where I missed the dumping coyote.

(Obviously I have no idea if they were the same coyotes, but for the sake of the argument, they were). Hahaha

Made a trip to the range today to check my zero on my pulsar. At 200 yards I was a good bit low as shown in the picture of my target. 59BB0751-2150-4F6E-B6BD-F7F3A29AFBC1.jpeg

About 15 shots later after checking with brass catcher on and then off, with different a lot of reloaded ammo, etc. I felt like I was in pretty good shape.

And judging from the hog participants in this next video, I’d say they would have to agree with me.

And of course it’s what I get for not bringing a tape measure with me.

I’m sure this is the biggest sow I’ve ever killed. Rifle is 45 inches long for perspective. LR-308, 25 round magazine.

I think I seen her in a bar once. Looks like that factory was in production. Good killin'.

Walking heart attack for sure. Probably did her a favor in the long run.

Lucky for me it had just rained and that peanut field was rowed up before the rain. Soft and difficult for them to run fast. Although I’m not sure tubby could run fast if her life depended on it.

You can hear the lead injections.

I think I'd avoid that bar in the future.
Unless, of course, you're seeking pigs.

Good hog down.

No worries there. 'Twas back in my LEO days, and was called to help remove some knucklehead from a bar. There'd always be some bar hag there, trolling for free drinks. Usually used the following line:

"HI hun-aye! You buy me Oly-pop? You look pretty special to ME!"

"Oly-pop"=Olympia Beer (cheap). LOL

That’s funny, one of the first beers I ever tasted as a youngster happened to be Olympia.

Nasty as hell as I recall. I’m surprised I even like to drink beer today remembering how bad that one was.

Hahah

I’m having some payback on the coyotes tonight also.

I had to return the breach today my local dealer. He let me use it for a week and it was dynamite. I did miss having it tonight but it really didn’t slow me down that bad.

Here’s a few more hogs. These three were on the larger size tonight.

And here was another lome boar almost in the same field the lone bore I shot last night was in.
