Why have I always wanted one? Maybe bc they were the rage when I started reading this forum? Maybe it’s kinda like a piece of military history? I’ve had probably a dozen thermals. I have a few really nice ones now that fulfill every need I have for hog hunting. Still......I want a w-1000. Does anyone still hunt with one? Are they just totally ridiculous? I figure it’d make a bomb proof scanner and back up to my back up’s back up.

Can you still acquire the military battery packs? Are they rechargeable? Is there an alternative to 9volt batts? You’d think at some point theyd start being clearanced.

Am I a total moron? Don’t answer that.

I use one every night I hunt. I have the video run to the nav screen in my Land Cruiser. I also have the cable that runs it on 12 volt. I think it is the best vehicle based spotter on the market. I can see over a mile with it, can't make out the type of animal at the range but can see there is something. I sell them on my webpage but call me and I can work on price a little. It will take some doing but I can get the 12V cable made as well. You can also get the mil battery packs.

I've had these exact same thoughts ... and came within a inch of doing it about a year ago ...

I think I got worried about repair ... don't recall exactly ...

All of this predicatedon the fact that they should be under $3k. I mean the technology advances are lapping these things. At $2500 I want one.

The fact that you never see it NUC is a technology that isn't in any other scope and it's range of detection in my opinion is top notch. They will never be under $3k and I know this because Ident Marking has them all and I used to work there.

Can you ballpark how many there are? Hundreds....a thousand? Just curious. I may call you one day and buy one. Thanks.

Ident bought the W-1000 program and I just got off the phone with them. They are working a deal to sell them all in 1 lot but at this time I can still get hands on some.

I like big glass on my thermals just as sir mix a lot likes big butts on his women. Will be interesting to see who they end up with. I wonder how much that 100mm germanium lens is worth alone?

It is big and I'd never want it on a rifle with the scope sizes available today but I haven't found a scope that has the detection range that the w-1000 does. I find it to be awesome when used from the vehicle. I have multiple fields that I hunt where from the road to the back corner is over a mile and I can tell if something is there
