Subsonic Bullet/Caliber Suggestion

I've got a unique hunting opportunity that is going to require a unique bolt action or non-gas gun. The hog hunting scenarios will be under 50 yards. Most within 25-40 yard range.

Looking more for the right bullet at this point.
I am favoring the .308 b/c I already have a die set. With the .300 BLK being popular in the gas world there seems to be some interesting bullet choices for the .308

I am considering the .375, 45-70, .458, maybe .50 Beuwolf.

What I am looking for are bullet/caliber success stories using subsonic ammo at close range distances.

How about one of these. Ruger American rifle chambered in 450Bushmaster. Reload any .452" bullet. Would suggest the Hornady XTP line.
OR . . . . could loan you my 10ga "carbine". It throws a 766gr slug at 1250fps. --- pruhdlr 1.jpg DSC00711.JPG

But seriously . . . . given the senerieo that you mentioned in the OP,I would go for a large bore/diameter bullet going as fast as possible, just under 1040fps.
If the 308Win is chosen consider momentum. Maybe a 220gr Sierra subsonic. Or possibly a 250. Take a look at either the Trail Boss loads or reduced loads using H4895 from the Hodgdon site. The super long bullets will destabilize rather quickly when entering the hog, then pitch and yaw creating a large wound cavity.
I also have a NEF single shot chambered in 500S&W Mag. I shoot a 440gr WFNGC (hardcast) out of it at 1020fps using Trail Boss. You could pretty much do the same thing if you had a 45-70Gov't. --- pruhdlr
