I find it best to use a live catch trap. Approach slowly with an old blanket in front of you and place it over trap. Then haul it off and release. One guy I knew would dump the trap in a garbage can full of water. I'm too soft and can't drown them.

I done this many a time. It's slow but it works.

My cousin calls me up one day... she's caught a rat in a trap and needs help (and, yes, she's married). I get there, and she's got this rat in a live trap and wants to know "what next?" The trap's the perfect size... so, my reply is "get me a bucket and the hose." End of THAT rat problem. Then I asked her... "Why the live trap? Planning on releasing it outside so it will come back in?" I get a look of helplessness in reply. LOL

trapped coons along creeks growing up. A 22 LR might damage the fur. A 1.5 minute dunk was fine with me. Probably a lot more humane than dying from mother nature. Was explaining this to my brother in-law, he kept interrupting me. He didn't want to hear it, but he's not a vegetarian.
