Do you guys have any powder suggestions for the 85? Midway had them on sale for $21 so i got 5 boxes to try.

Barnes doesnt have the TSX on their load data. But they do have the 85 MPG FB.

Hoping i can get some 2 for 1 hits on hogs with them after the 120sst killing the first one and not exiting.

Re7 always seemed to be the favored 6.8 powder for light pills like the 85TSX.

I believe Constructor cracked that threshold using Re7 and loading them long. I'd pick his brain. If I'm recalling correctly... that was a "push it to" type of test, one of his barrels/chambers. In any case... I know when I read it, I was impressed with the effort.

Check with H. It may even be stashed in an old thread for that bullet/loading 6.8 over on 68forums. I'm wanting to (from memory) say, somewhere in the neighborhood of 30.5 gr. of Re7, seated at between 2.295-2.30 with Gen1 PRI mags got him in the area of 3K. I don't recall whether that was a compressed load. As always, do your due diligence and work UP from lower levels to find your sweet spot.

Don't laugh, they're out there. I knew a guy (once), who like to tell everyone about his handloading... for his .458 Win Mag. His technique was to reduce his powder load when he quit blowing his primers out.

He also told tale of his wife being so good (with his handloads... same gun) that the rounds shot made one perfect hole. He wouldn't hear it when it was suggested that she MIGHT be flinching and not even on target after the first round. Nor, that he may want to start lower and work UP. Nor, would any consideration be given to the fact that she had coke-bottle glasses, and might NOT be as sharp eyed as he claimed...

I use a weighed charge of 30 grains R10X, CCI41 primers, Fed brass, 85 gr Barnes TSX bullets and a little crimp with a Lee FCD. They are hog and deer killers.

I get a chronographed average of 2930 fps with this load from an 18" Wilson Combat Barrel.

I find the 85gr to be good for standing still hogs, heck a 22 or 17 will do the same thing, moving or running it is not the bullet to use.

Try a couple before you get too in to them. I bought a bunch of 85gr Barnes on sale and my 6.8 hates them. It will cut holes with a 110gr but the 85s walk around. In reality its probably not enough to effect a kill shot but just knowing it does it drives me nuts.

I would step up to the 95gr TTSX. The TSX requires faster FPS to expand properly. I've had mid results when th them. The TTSX have performed flawlessly.
