LWRC SIX8-A5

I know nothing about piston operated AR's. The A5 has an adjustable gas block to compensate for suppressor use, according to LWRC. By having this feature, how much difference is there if any with identical suppressors, barrel lengths, and using same ammo on a non piston gun?

Why should I consider a piston AR?

I'm AR shopping, that's my reason for asking. Thanks.

getting a new rifle was the quickest way for me to get back in the 6.8 game. after researching it, the A5 was the only choice.
i called lwrc and asked about shooting other models with a suppressor and he said the A5 was the way to go. it's only a two position, but it's good enough. i haven't tuned it anymore, but i could probably get my empties landing a bit behind 3:00 by swapping spring/buffer. i haven't bothered because it shoots so well now.

the piston is self cleaning with a scraper gizmo. AND IT WORKS!!!!!

there was something about carrier tilt on older piston guns. from what i read, lwrc cured that with their design. not sure about the details but it was just another plus.

oh yea... THE PMAG!!!!! that's reason enough

Piston guns run a lot cleaner. Something to think about if you want to run suppressed.

One person is saying that there is an issue with gas blowing in the shooter's face. How much of a problem is there with this?

There is actually less gas coming back with a piston. The only time I've had anything get in my eyes shooting a lwrc was after I sunk the rifles in a Sandy mud mix. After that I had sand in my eyes for about 10-15 shots.

The exit for the gas is in the middle of the barrel. You may be able to find a more accurate 6.8 but you would be hard pressed to find a smoother running bang bang bang AR that never seems to jam or have any other problems including rarely needing to clean the bolt system.

Yes sir, it does help. Thank you for that.
Dunno why some claim the 6.5 Grendel is slowly killing off the 6.8. Seen some arguments recently on another site. Some people just like to argue it seems. I don't get involved in any of that.

the Grendel will never kill off anything, still a good caliber but sometimes the fan boys get carried away

I hate having gun issues when I'm stalking up on hogs .... the A5 sounds very tempting with everyone's experience so far!

Op you don't need a piston driven gun. If you want a six8 it's a great choice. If you buy a DI gun you will probably never know any difference. If anything slap an adj gas block on a DI gun and spend why you da e on Ammo or optics. I have a lwrc piston 5.56 and love it by the way.

The only people who say that are Grendel fan boys. 300 blackout fanboy say the same thing. Nothing wrong with the Grendel it just needs a longer barrel than I want to math the 6.8 in the ranges I hunt.

Makes sense. Certain ones claim to be smiths and supposedly nobody asks for a 6.8 to be built. Could be these smiths are very vocal and discourage any such talk of 6.8 from potential or actual customers. They sound very slanted when a discussion of 6.8's is brought up. I realize the subject of guns can be a sensitive issue for some folks. Some get very defensive and take discussions personal as though it was a family member. ☺☺.
