Watermelon for hogs....?

I went to the ranch a few weeks back and checked cameras. The feeder I usually hunt had no pics of hogs but other feeders had several showing up. I was in a Lowes grocery store in George West when I spotted a gallon jug of watermelon flavored sno cone syrup. Something told me to grab it. I diluted it 50/50 with water and put about a quart on the ground by one of the feeder legs. I went back in the morning and found a pit where I had put the watermelon liquid down. Tthe camera had several pics of two different large boars that had rooted the ground completely on hat spot. They came back the next two nights and rooted some more as I had put corn down and sprayed it with the watermelon liquid. I'm convinced that the watermelon brought them in very effectively. I know hogs love real watermelon and it looks like this really did the trick. This is in a river bottom where there are hogs.
Has anyone had similar results with watermelon?

I know Lonepunman has had great results with snow cone syrup in general. Personally I like molasses. I use it when making a batch of soured corn. I've seen the hogs run to the smell.

I'll bet mashed up pumpkin in hole would be a sure thing.... great idea, thanks Frank. We've done the sour corn thing but nothing has brought them in as fast as that syrup. However, I may brew a batch of corn and put some out in few weeks now that we know the pigs are around again. They disappeared for approx 6 months last year due to a mountain lion, but the cat is gone now. The wildlife has returned.

I hope that "cat" made it into someone's freezer and hide for a mount. I'd LOVE to get me a mountain kitty!!! Good eating, meat is all white.

Try old veggies from a market or even slop from cafeterias, schools or otherwise. Everything eats bread and I get the 40lb bags from the old bread store for $3.50

I got a truckload of leftover donuts and tortillas and bread from church one time. It was donated and had piles left over. I took it out to my best hog spot on the river and never had 1 hog go near it. It sat there for months and months. I put some inside traps too but I couldn't believe they wouldn't eat it.

Frank, I was talking to a guy yesterday that tried pumpkins on a hog trail to get them to stay longer and he said the hogs quit using that trail all together, wouldn't go near them. I was using pumpkins in my traps to catch bunches of hogs a couple years ago. Never know with those hogs, much I think is learned behavior.

I put out 6 watermelons at one of my spots last year. Went back the next day and every trace of the watermelons was gone. Look at the trail cam pics and found the hogs annihilated the watermelons during the night.

There you go, they will eat almost anything as long as there is one brave one that will try it first if it is new to them

We have been given the task to do some testing for the "Bait Corn Co.". We were given a new flavor last week that is not available yet called "Wild Berry". We put some out under one of the feeders and the results were remarkable. Many more deer came to that feeder than we had seen on camera in recent weeks. I then put some out approx 50 yds from the feeder in the sendero and set up a camera. It drew in the hogs and deer like a magnet. Both test spots had not one kernal left on the ground. Since using this flavored corn we have seen an increase in numbers and quality of deer and hogs at our feeders. Just FYI.
