LUFKIN Area, looking at 2 homes HELP

1 N and 1 S by Lake Rayburn, need to know a bit about the area have not been there in 50 years..both in the country, 1-3 acres..Just need advice about the area..Thanks

Frank I worked on the northside the last 6 years near Etoile and Woden all the way to Lufkin nice area to be in. Huge deer abundance of game and Lufkin has got everything now. Even a Academy sporting goods.

Lufkin area seems to be a nice place. Been there a few times and not much traffic and good country living! BANG BANG!!

One is in the Sabine Natl Forrest @ Sam Rayburn

The other is more northwest out of Lufkin I guess Rd to Pollok or Redtown

I see the crime is higher in Lufkin as compared to the average of the State but both of them are out of town with a little land...houses are real nice and all brick

Frank, I live on Rayburn midway between Broaddus and Pineland. I'm about 45 minutes from Lufkin or Nacodoches. I love the area, but being this far away from shopping etc., you have to plan your trips to make best use of time. Lufkin does have a little bit of a seedy side to it, but I never feel unsafe in any part of town, but I wouldn't live in town anyway. If you send me more detailed info on where they are located, I will drive by and give you a "first impression." We are surrounded by National Forrest and public hunting areas, but you have to deal with those regulations. (No night hunting, baiting, etc.). Lots of commercial Forrest areas where there are hunting leases. (Average cost $800 - $1000)

As stated above, Lufkin has just about everything you need including VA clinic and two respectable hospitals. I find the people a little strange from what I am used to. There is a touch of red-neck background and a little stand-offish. After 9 years here I have great neighbors (except for one) who would do anything for you, but just not what you would call friends. Maybe it's because I'm such an ass, who knows. Anyway, it doesn't have the same feeling as other areas of Texas, but that might not be a bad thing. Like they say, "Texas, it's like a whole other country."

Yeah I do know that about East Texas and my only hesitation, but we shall see I guess

Bill, I made an offer on a house on 4 acres while I was there, little hope of getting it because of my demands. However their 200 yard range and skinning rack on the side of the barn did sway me...lol

Hope you get it Frank... the good Lord will put the right place into your hands.

Thanks RD, lets see what they decide. It has a barn/workshop with 2 garage doors and an open bay. Everything was just repainted, I am asking for a new roof, my closing and much more, lots for them to spend. 3 miles out of town so 5 minutes to the Dairy Queen, Sonic and Grocery store. Already met the town Tire Store owner and we drove by to look at the house, he was curious which one it was and he lives 2 miles away. Said he has a lot of hog hunting land and will get me in touch with the farmers that are having big problems!

Bill lot of hogs, very wet area, Lake Sam Rayburn. This area Huntington TX, has lots of private land leases ($800-1200, seems they are mostly deer hunters) as well as paper company land. I had a flat, ruined a tire and the Tire Store owner had me wait 2 hrs for my size tire till the truck delivered it. He is a big hunter and landowner, told me he would introduce me to all the farmers that tell him they have hog problems and some even pay to have people remove the hogs. All the farms use him for their tires, 3 tractors came up while I was there. I could not have found a better hang out place and even his workers were calling people to help me move...lol He drove me all around, even to his house showing me property, some too thick to hunt but this is a very small town outside Lufkin so all around is farms and forests.

yep RD sure will be and Chopper lives 30 minutes away! Cannot bother the neighbors using it like a big range shooting all the time or like at Ricks but I will sight in new glass and practice handgun training, things like that...I will have to get some suppressors!
