Browning and Winchester have introduced the new 6.8 Western. It is supposed to be the next better thing than the Creedmoor, and the 6.5PRC and according to what I have read it truly is!!! This is going to be the next bolt gun I purchase (although you can not get shells for anything anymore but I hope to have one when you can!) so I can say I have one!!!:) one thing I did not like is they have or are issuing these in way to many models. I spent all day reading about each different model and have narrowed it down to the XBolt Western Hunter Long Range 26”. Since there is a Creedmoor in an AR I am wondering if there will be an AR in the new 6.8 Western or are the pressures going to be to high??? Heck of a round and can not wait to get this rifle??? have my gun guy looking as of today!!! BANG BANG!!!!

Called Browning and the only way to get one at this time is to order one from a gun dealer. This could be good or bad?? If you order one now they have to make it then send it and you would own one of the first ones made, on the other hand a person might have one of the few ever made!?? The best I could figure out is they are doing this like they did their 6.5 and if it takes off they will make it a production and if it doesn’t go over then they won’t.? I found one place that is selling ammo and it is right at 45 dollars a box.

update?? they are going into production from what I was told and the release date is the end of the 3rd quarter. Don’t believe this will ever be an AR rifle as pressures will be much. This is a round for long range shooting as it is a cut down 270 WinMag with 165 to a 175 grain bullet pushing 2970 feet per second!! I found a Browning dealer in Utah and I was able to order one. I do not hunt much anymore so I am going to get into shooting long distance to pass some time!!!:) BANG BANG!!

Ordered one XBolt Western Hunter Long Range 26 inch barrel, bought six boxes of 165 grain long range shells/bullets, and a two set of Redding dies. Do not have a time on the rifle but the person at Browning said they are running about 12 weeks if I remember correctly. The Redding dies could take up to eight months. Redding made a handful of sets but of course those went fast. The waiting game begins!!!???:) BANG BANG!!:)

I have an extra Trijicon Accupoint 5X20X50,, I’ll use that until I save some money for a NightForce or something like that. Maybe an updated Trijicon????

31C582C1-6D98-4C10-895E-0545C47E0011.jpeg Last shot at the range yesterday at a 100. Rifle needs to get broke in and I have to get used to firing a bolt gun!!:) noise and the kick are not bad at all. Took me awhile to even get on paper due to the MOA rail and it just about bottomed out the scope but that means I have all sorts of extra now to shoot at max distances. I was worried about the kick but it really isn’t bad at all. Like it so far and will go back and do some pinpoint adjustments this weekend,, then go to a different range and shoot at 2 and 300 yards and go from there.

I own a 6.5PRC and love it. To me it is all about the twist rate. I picked my Browning because it comes with 1:7 twist and will stabilize ANY .264" bullt offered.
What is the rate of the 6.8W ?? ---- pruhdlr

7 1/2 and I am shooting 165 grain. If I get a chance to do an Elk trip next year and it’s a BIG if I’ll shoot 175 grain. I am waiting for the 150 grain bullets to come out also. Ken

Ken, good to see you are still at it. I am wondering how you got out to shoot, man it hasn't quit raining here for days (off and on).

Hello Dan!!:) glad to hear from you. Yup buddy it’s been doing the same thing over here!!! I just went and picking the widest coveted place to shoot, I was the only one there and shot and moved target in between showers. Plan on going Sunday morning early to finish with the final touches. All the best to you and the fam. :)
