I spotted a bunch of hogs underneath a pecan tree about 250 yards away from my vantage point atop a lake dam. A bright moon forced me to stay in the shadows and I didn't feel comfortable taking a shot at that distance. Anyhow I watched them for a while and they seemed to be drifting towards my feeder at the other end of the dam, another good 250 yard walk. I decided to drop down behind the dam and walk towards the feeder to see if I could get there ahead of the group. Again there was no cover as I rounded the end of the dam and sure enough they were in sight about 75 yards away in some brush along the fence line. They must have spotted me but didn't take off, just stayed in the brush. I walked up further to where I could see the feeder and there was this one lone boar separate from the main group. One shot of Federal Fusion out of an 18 inch barrel took him out. He taped out at 180 lbs. It was about 10:30 pm and the temps had dropped into the forty's. Of course the main group took off then and I couldn't take any follow up shot. Getting one at a time is very frustrating but you gotta take what you can get.

A pig in the hand is worth two in the bush, kudos.

Had a similar situation this past weekend. Big group of hogs but due to circumstances could only really take a shot at one. Can't be too mad about it.
