No More Varmageddon For Me

Well, the Varmageddon worked alright on most well placed shots on hogs, but the lack of penetration (apparently due to early and extensive fragmentation) just doesn't seem to reliably do the job. The bullets shot very well and the ammo cycled great, but terminal performance on hogs just isn't up to snuff as a primary hog hunting bullet.

I've had hogs go down and then disappear while I went for the truck, but not after a shot that seemed that good. I'll bet it didn't make it very far.
Good video with interesting narration!

May not work well on hogs, however, it appears to efficiently gut/skin/quarter skunks. LOL Stink stank stunk!! Shame that sow went full on Zombie on ya.

Hmmm........ Brian, the word Varmageddon implies it's for varmits. I realize we think of pigs as varmits but it's meant for coyotes, fox, prairie dogs sunks and other light skinned critters.

Jhop, do you really believe in design intent and marketing hype? Speer TNT is a "varmint" round (the name implies it explodes when it hits something) and is excellent on hogs, despite the fact that printed right on the box is "Varmint and Predator" while it implies it is meant for just those. Hornady AMAX was designed and marketed as a target round that turned out to be a round loved for deer hunting across several calibers. Similarly, people are using the newish Hornady ELD-Match ammo for hunting and it is doing very well despite being match ammo. Not only are they using it for hunting with success, they are using it for both larger game and smaller varmints.

Manufacturers make a variety of bullets and despite how they market them, they often perform well in other areas of application. I like to find out what works and what doesn't work. Varmageddon is one that isn't going to work well for hogs.

Lots of deer have been killed 22lr but that doesn't mean you should use it for that purpose. Same goes with many other bullets

30 caliber Speer TNT is my favorite hog bullet in cartridges smaller than 308 win. I use 165 SST in my 308, but I love the TNT for hogs in my blackout and 30 Herrett. I think it is absolutely perfect on hogs at those velocities.

I dropped a doe with a single shot just short of 600 yards with 50gr vmax out of my 22-250 once. Hit her pretty much where I was aiming for, in the neck. In hindsight it was a stupid shot to even try.

How do you know unless you try them? Or, are you saying that you believe design intent/marketing?

Going by similar logic, we would not use kevlar in ballistic vests because it was intended for use in tires. Bubble wrap should not be used for packaging because it was designed for wallpaper. Viagra was designed as a blood pressure medicine (it failed testing). Super Glue was originally designed for medical applications. WD40 was designed as a water displacer in the aerospace industry, but we now know it to have dozens of applications outside of water displacing.

Holly bull, Brian you sound like a democratic arguing a baby isn't alive until it's born so it's alright to kill it. Just let it go

Cannot believe she got away. Does not look like I am going to get down to Texas this spring. Conflict of schedules with Ranch by Love Lady and my brother left to work in Virginia for 4 month.

You know it doesn't say not to eat the Tide pods either. Try and a few to see if they taste as good as they look. Sometimes comment sense just should be used

LOL, a person reading a Tide box warning would see that it says harmful if swallowed or if it gets in the mouth, eyes or skin. Do you not understand that to be 'do not eat'?

Brian do you really believe in design intent and marketing hype on the box? Just try it for yourself, you seem to be an experiment minded person.
