Stalk Twice, Shoot Once

I believe I stalked this boar twice in the same night. I/something spooked him during my first 350 stalk and he was gone when I crested the rise where I could see his location again. That is part of the reason I dislike blind stalks. However, he appeared to come back a bit later and I repeated the process with better success. So much so that I ended up much closer to him than I intended.

I mentioned that the ammo is Hornady ELD-M 129 grain and it is actually 130 gr. D'oh! Still, it performed well. I was trying to hit the humerus to see what would happen to the bullet and just missed. The bullet went about an inch in before opening up, smashed a rib, cut 3 tubes (trachea and/or esophagus plus carotid and/or the jugular vein) filling his chest with blood, into which I managed to drop my phone while taking photos. 3 cleanings later and I still don't think I got the blood out of all the crevices, LOL.

That 'ol boy sure did his best to present a nice target. Excellent results!

I often deliberately do blind stalks so that I can stay out of sight of the hog until I'm fairly close, but you're right that the targets sometimes decide to go an unexpected route and disappear. In this case patience paid off.

Good stuff Brian. Hope the phone survived the bloodbath.

Good spotted boar down!! I don't like stalking blind either. You don't know what direction hogs will suddenly start trotting to.

On this property, it is a rolling pasture with a ridge in the middle at one end where I like to spot from. Sometimes, I get to shoot from there. Often, it is just my starting point and when I come off the ridge in most directions, I dip below one or more other ridges and lose sight of my quarry. So it is just wishful thinking If I see hogs at the far end of the property and they are moving quickly, I don't even bother to get out of my chair, LOL. They will be long gone before I get out to them 10-15 minutes later.

Yeah, I should have said I like a blind stalk when the hogs are munching acorns or black walnuts under a tree and I know they're going to stick around for a while.

All's well that ends well. Dead hog. HOPEFULLY the phone is "waterproof". Time for the Clorox wipes to get all that yuck gone. Us'n vicarious hog hunters appreciate the extra effort you take to tell that "rest of the story". No doubt that he was in "kerplunk" mode on impact.

Well to be honest, only the lower portion of the phone and one side went in the pooled blood, but the lower portion has the mic hole, speaker hole, charging jack, magic wand stylus thingy, headphone jack, etc.

So after I got home and rinsed everything off, I dipped the phone into a glass of alcohol and watched the phone 'bleed' as the dried blood in those areas dissolved out. I have done this three times now and I can't see any red appearing in the alcohol anymore.

If you cut him where he dropped, the Apple did not fall far from the tree.
