I hunt this property that has this large petroleum well pad just about in the middle of it North-to-South. There is this really noisy natural gas compressor that runs constantly and makes a LOT of noise. From this pad and the little knoll right next to it, I can see about 80% of the property and actually hunt about 50%. The compressor is a mixed bag, however. The noise covers the sound of me walking back and forth across the well pad to scan different areas of the property, but it also keeps me from hearing hog noises.

Thursday night, I had a sounder come in that I spotted during my regular circuit. I managed to shoot 7 or 8 (?) hogs, recover 5, collect most of them in my truck and was driving the carcasses to the bone yard when I spied another sounder at the other end of the property. They were apparently oblivious to all my activity or the sounds of me driving around, I think, large because of the constant droning of the compressor. I managed to shoot 6(?) here and recover 5.

So not a bad night. I would like to have recovered more. I know two made it off the property. I figure there are 1 or 2 more piglets that are just plain hidden in the brush that even the buzzards had not found (yet).

Embrace the compressor noise, it seems to produce for you and your game. Nice killin', and a very happy land owner the next day, I'm sure.

Good shooting on the runners! And a nice mess of hogs.

Gud Gawd, that’s a lotta work to track, drag and stack them up for the photo. You need to get an intern from TPWD.

By now, we would have just taken your word for it....

A few of Lot’s wives didn’t make it to the thicket.

How often are you alerted to the presence of hogs audibly before visually?

No sir. On this location, there is a very LOUD natural gas compressor that runs 24/7. It is on a well pad in the central portion of the property where I hang out because it gives me such good views of the overall property. So generally, I don't hear squat and squat doesn't hear me...until I get well away from the compressor area.

The hogs are supposed to be removed from the field. So stacking them was just for the trophy pic. I had to get them anyway.
