I had hunted earlier in the evening with some luck in downing hogs, but had trouble finding them in the wheat. I had only found 2 and was going home rather dejected. I cruised by my other properties and saw no more hogs until I got to the last place I was going to check, a piece of land on which I let my neighbor run cattle. He had complained to me about coyotes (one calf killed) and so I was hoping to finish off the night with a coyote. So I get out at the gate and scanned. I see a bunch of cattle off to my right and one bedded lone calf at the back of the property. My first thought was that is how calves can get attacked. Then I watched the calf take a couple of steps and realized it was a good-sized hog.

I crossed about half the distance to it and got set up. I could see it was a very large hog and I saw no reason to get any closer to it than I already was. I did a rough stadiametric range assessment using my crosshairs and figure he was within my effective shooting range with no holdover needed. I figured I would shoot it and if it ran, I had a lot of open field to pick it off, if needed. He actually moseyed my way a little bit and I let him close the distance. Wind was in my favor and I was in no rush, but he stopped and presented a decent target and so I took the shot.

The shot hit behind the head and apparently spined him. I forgot to mention in the video that a finishing shot was needed, but at that point, he was a quadriplegic in respiratory distress. The Speer TNT did not exit.

That’s a big ol’ boy there! Good shooting. Turned his lights out pretty quick.

That's gotta be pushing close to personal biggest? Nice anchoring work. That's a big ol' pile of stink right there.

Now THAT's a big ol' hog!

Nice shooting!
190 yards would be out of my comfort zone, but I've never claimed to be a great marksman.

Speer rep should be contacting you soon to put that on their website…

Looks like you earned that solid three three-quarter hours of sleep later that night.
