New from Central Texas

New to this forum; but a long time fan of the 6.8 and pig hunting; been using this platform since 2004 in OIF. It has been a little slow for me helping to eliminate some of our feral hogs, however, I have killed about 30 this year. Most were taken with the 6.8 but the last 10 were grounded with my fail safe 458 Socom, "Thumper". I've been testing various shot placements to check on effectiveness of the caliber. I will say that none have gotten away. Most shots are 50-75 yards; interestingly 2/3s have been boars (single or just two at a time). I might try to upload some pictures later; size of pigs has been above average. My round for the 458 S is reloaded with a 300 grain Barnes BT TTSX and H110.

Howdy¡ I'm also in Central Texas area, hunting mostly in Lee County. Not too surprised that the hogs aren't getting up and running away after being hit by the 458. Keep After 'Em¡

Glad you found us...I’m down in Austin.

Are you using any night optics?
