Obj. Diameter Advantages?

If you had 2 thermal scopes that are identical other than the objective lens size, what advantage does the larger germanium lens give you?

Does it perform similar to how day scopes work, with the larger lens gathers more light, the larger germanium gathers more heat signature?

Or is there more to it?

The larger lens does gather more "information" ... this seems to mostly matter in poor thermal conditions ... rain ... high humidity ... wind .. when the larger lens device will degrade slightly less than the smaller lens device.
But, also, for a scope, a larger lens, usually means more magnification and less field of field.

So, the primary driver for me, in making the decision like between a trijicon 19mm 35mm or 60mm lens ... is the FOV ... those scopes are totally usable on 2x digital, so it is possible to increase usable magnification, but it is not possible to increase usable FOV.

I do most of my hunting/critter control under 100yds ... so FOV is king .. and I like 1x ..

I started in the IRD space with the mk2 2.5x 35mm ... and eventually I upgraded it to 60mm for long distance spotting (more magnification) ... but at the same time, I got a PATROL for 1x work inside 100yds.
