Have a 6.8 coming

Bought off a message board, the brass and a box of 110 grain prohunters came today and the upper should be here tomorrow. Hopefully with a set of dies. PSA 16 inch barreled complete upper. So weather permitting I will see how a cheap 6.8 shoots soon. Hopefully as good as my Grendel.

Sounds like a sweet deal. Keep us posted on how it shoots.

Well I put the upper on an Anderson Lower I have, lubricated it with Ford Transmission fluid, mounted a 3x9 Bushnell Banner, loaded a Grendel magazine with 9 rounds and went out in the windy cold to check function. Fed and ejected just fine. Just point shooting at my backstop. The ammo is the Remington 115 grain FMJ which appears to be loaded very mild. The cases have the mouth closed about 25%, every one. Thinking a warmer load might overcome that. Or any suggestions?

yeah I will not even shoot that ammo, way to weak and makes you think you have issues when you do not

Normally I shoot a few rounds of factory ammo before I start loading my own. Going to start with H322 and the 110 Prohunters, then on to SST's after I get it on paper.

Worked up to 28.0 grains of H322 under the Prohunter and stopped there, MOA accuracy and perfect function. My only real snivel is that the case mouth is still being slightly flattened on one side. An annoyance is that the Remington brass uses large rifle primers and the other brass, SSA uses small rifle primers.

More than likely the cases are hitting the shell deflector. Get some self adhesive velcro and put the loop(soft) side on the shell deflector.

That should work well. My load is slightly higher @28.5 grs of H322 and averages 2566 FPS through my 16" barrel.

I worked the 6.5 magazine a bit with a dremel to smooth feeding by lowering the front lip a bit and now it doesn't scratch the case like it did, now I have to remove some burrs from the feed ramp and there will be no more marked cases. I also shortened COAL a bit more so the bullet ogive does not touch the rifling. Great shooting barrel.

So then I should be getting near 2500 fps. Perfect. The ProHunter is a preety soft bullet but I did some water filled milk jug testing and it penetrated four jugs, found it laying on the ground a foot behind the 4th jug. The core anyway as the jacket broke up in pieces through the 2nd and 3rd jugs with some pieces sticking through the plastic. I am using 28.0 grains mostly because I have a dipper that consistently throws it and I can't complain about accuracy. While testing to remove the scraching on the brass I fired four rounds into a bit over an inch with three in a 1/2 inch triangle.
