Got a text just after 4pm, she says hogs in the lower field. I make it out before 5:30 and do a stalk, they are about 100 yds out, shoot the nice boar first. He goes down I turn on running sow and dump her drt. Of course the boar is trying to make it back to the creek and I put 2 more in him. Had to put 1 more in him at close range, wouldn't die.
Hanging out next to barn area at dark and what turned out to be a giant pregnant sow comes from her yard area somehow, from where I don't know. I hit her on the run, she spins, a few more, she keeps going a few more, a few more spins, like 9 shots in her. I go out to see her and she gets up and comes at me, 2 more to the head with my 22 pistol {I ran out of 6.8 on my last shot} Big sow and sooo tough it's hard to believe.IMG_20171228_173120636.jpg IMG_20171228_172942112_HDR.jpg IMG_20171228_181703281.jpg

Thanks, just needed a break for a while.

All you needed to do is to jump onto her middle, and count the shots popping out the breech. LOL

The good thing about a 22 is you can rip off 10 rounds and stay on target the whole time. The bad thing about a 22 is that if you miss that brain bucket it can get a little interesting. lol

And this is why I asked about what sidearms y'all pack when going after these snarling bulldozers! Nice job Dan!

Nice work Dan. I'm 'piggy backing' on your sow thread. Our lease has been effectively destroyed this season with construction of a new county road, logging for the last 2 months still going strong and as of yesterday slow burns all over the property. All shooter bucks have simply left the property and crossed the road all cameras empty on our end of the property. We have not even seen a hog in about 5 weeks. I go out last night and sit in a stand I'm nto really fond of simply b/c I wanted to go ahead and do everything out of the norm. Horrible NE wind 21-25mph, stand that gets blown up by cows a lot, don't really like it....what the heck do I have to lose at this point. After sitting for 4 hours 18 minutes the few hens and 2 coons take off running so I know hogs gotta be close. Mama comes in with 5 piglets and anchored her like a brick and piglet came back a few minutes later to check on why mom was napping. No bueno. Also first blood on brand new glass so felt good to get a heart and head shot it's dialed in as good as I can get. That is entrance on sow, but shot from 21 ft stand at 46 yards exit was lower maybe top of heart was aiming for opposite shoulder quartering away. She hit the ground and shook for maybe 10 seconds. Piglet was as good a shot as I'll ever make gave it a rip on the noggin looked like a watermelon exploded.

Just to bring me back to frustration reality thought mother nature got the last laugh. As I'm headed back to camp I'm scanning with thermal and see two sounders of a dozen or so hogs. One in a known culprit field chowing on fresh rye for cows and the other on the other side of the road near our gut pile. I'm getting ready to jump out and I get a call. "Hey can you get on this conference call at 7?" So I promptly pack up and haul it home so I can jump on the craptop. Weeeee! At least I saw some hogs for thermal duty.
