Hey guys I wonder if you might talk about the whys and hows of arriving at your setup please? I know I've seen a few pics of people lower to the ground maybe on one knee with a tri/bipod. Of course the standing route works too. Just wondering if I might learn something early on to push me one way or the other. Also please know I'm a YUGE idiot so dumb it down for me as much as ya can. Thanks.

I've got the Caldwell tripod and I'm pretty pleased with it. It provides a stable platform for shooting. My only complaint would be its height.

I was just having this conversation with a buddy an hour ago. I use a monopod and up until recently, didn't give it a second thought. Was very steady and all I needed. The last couple times out, I couldn't keep the crosshairs exactly where I wanted to save my life. Not sure what changed. Been Googling for more stable positions than standing.

I have noticed a lot of folks rocking tripods on here but I don't know if I wanna lug around another 5 or 10lbs. I mostly hunt open fields in a UTV and will end up stalking for a couple hundred yards usually.

Trigger stick tripod, too simple and easy to use and carry

I use the primos trigger stick tripod. It's lightweight and quiet when you're setting it up. If I need to make a quick shot I won't bother spreading the legs and will just use it as a monopod.

I've used the Primos Gen 2 Jim Shockey edition tri pod trigger stick. Very smooth, easy to use, they worked great. That is until you get them wet. Went through 2 sets of them. The second set lasted longfer than the first set as I made a good effort to keep them from getting wet. However sooner or later you're going to be hunting when the dew point reaches that level where your sticks get dew on them while you're hunting. Won't use them again. I now use the Bog-Pod tall camo tri pod shooting sticks. Not as easy to set-up as the Primos, but still easy to use, light weight and reliable. I set them up for a standing position. Most of my pig hunting is done at night and I almost always shoot from a standing position. With what ever rest I'm using, I've found out for me, the farther out on the forearm I rest my rifle on, the more stable my rifle is. To me a tri-pod is a much steadier rest than a mono-pod or bi-pod.

I wonder if you could take the rubber foot off the bottom and pour rubbing alcohol in the leg to dry them out?

Isn't that what WD40 is for? ("Water Displacement Recipe #40")

I wipe the legs down with a slick product that does not attract dirt..inside I would use WD40
