SST's are great just made the switch from ELD-X
The only thing I would do differently is look to see if there is a heavier bullets.
Curious why you are looking at the 125 versus the 150 or 165?
150-175 seems to be a sweet spot for most .308's.

Speed kills ! If I can run 125's at 3200 plus fps, I can run a bullet that will penetrate, blow up, and allow for quicker follow up shots in multiple targets. That is 600 fps. faster than a 6.8 running 120 sst's

I've used the 125 Nosler BT. It worked great with no over penetration.

I do not believe that you will be able to get 3200fps out of a AR/308. With an extended bbl (21"+) you should be able to achieve 3100. Remember also, even though the bullet weight is low for bore size, the recoil will be about the same as a 168gr medium load. Also, most likely,a massive fireball.
These 125's are designed to open pretty fast,so IMO running them excessively fast is not needed, especially in a 1:10 twist gun. --- pruhdlr

I'm building an ar10 with an 18" barrel. I get 2800 fps in an 18" bolt gun with 150 sst's
If recoil is the same I would rather run the 150's

I run mine at 2950. Most of my shots are under 200 yards and they work great for that.

I use 45 gr imr 4895 and get 2950 fps with a 20 barrel and suppressor. I have gone as high as 46.5 with no pressure signs. Did not crono these because I loaned out my crono. You can load the mag with 180's, 165/168's, 150's and 125's and rank them by recoil without knowing beforehand how they were stacked. The 125 BT's are my favorite bullet. Flatter shooting and less recoil than the others and hydrostatic shock is a plus. I think that total pass through is a waste of energy so what difference does a heaver bullet make? Aren't all 30 calibers the same diameter? What advantage is longer if its going to totally pass through anyway?

I think the same way. I want all the energy in the animal. Do you find you get more one shot bang flops with them?

I've been shooting hogs almost 30 years and these are the best 308 bullets I have ever found. I shot them in a 24 in barrel bolt gun for years and they ran almost 3100 fps with the same load. Rarely would they pass through at that speed. Some people think that Varget might be a better powder but I've got too much 4895 to change now.

I stopped at 45 because it was the first accuracy node for this particular rifle. Looks like I might have left a lot on the table!

DPMS GII Hunter with an adjustable gas block. It really cut down on the barrel jump and seemed to help on the recoil.

i dunno if this has any merit, but...
if a ft lb of energy is the force needed to move a 1 lb object 1 foot, and u like to dump all the energy inside the hog by leaving the bullet there, then hasnt the energy reached zero when it stops?

if the bullet passes thru, hasnt it dumped more energy inside simply by traveling thru more hog and exiting with ft lbs > 0

and if the bullet has done damage (as opposed to pass thru from fmj for ex), then dont you have the best of both shock and damage
