Click on the link and you will see the daughter and one of her Dolphin she recently caught in Marathon Florida. The guy we went out with put in on his site for the tournament he runs in the facebook section (I think). Anywhos he liked the picture so he put it up on the site. This is just one of the many fish she caught. Scroll down she has a buff over her face and a bright shirt and a nice cow dolphin. When she gets them all together and on the computer I or she will get some of the pictures posted up. Lots of stories for the 5 full days the wife and daughter fished. I only went out twice and one of those trips was for Goliath Grouper, long story short I ended up catching a couple (that was not suppose to happen!!!) and that was it for me and both trips were SHORT!!! FISH FISH!!

The capt. we went out with runs the Cow and Bull Dolphin Tournament. The boys from Into The Blue (fishing show) along with a lot of other capts loved the picture and the locals and other capts. blew up her facebook and messages with other pictures he posted. She is a great fishergal. FISH FISH!!

On a side note the truck was parked right in front of the tackle store for 7 days and there were a lot of double takes on the LSB sticker on the back window with many questions about it!! STICKER STICKER!!!!!

So,, on the Grouper trip the capt. brought his son along. He weighs a whole 35 pounds soaking wet. My daughter is left handed so we had to bring all her offshore tackle with us and the kid fell in love with one of her offshore spinning/jigging rods. Daughter would be on a huge fish and the kid would throw the rod he liked out and of course he would hook a huge fish too. Mind you we are using offshore stuff and the drags are set well into the heavy side well over 35lbs of drag. I would have to make sure he would not go over board and the capt. was looking after the daughter in case something broke she would not fall and hurt herself. The kid would only last for a couple minutes then I would hand it over to the wife and she was no help with only lasting a couple minutes also, that left me. This is on medium/heavy off shore spinning gear. Daughter was using the Avet 50W with 130 braid on it. I ended up catching 2 Grouper over a hundred helping the daughter with her last one and it was over 200 , a Southern Sting Ray over 100, and a Nurse Shark over 225. On that trip we ended up with the Goliath total of 2 over 100, 1 over 150 1 over 200 and the big one my daughter caught all on her own was close to the 300 range and all was in 20 foot of water on the gulf side over a wreck. She also caught a nurse shark over 150 so I was a complete mess and the last grouper she hooked she just could not get it in so I helped and we were all beat to crap and called it a day. The rest of the trip I stayed inside in the A/C watching the tube!!! She only lost 2 and all were released unharmed and swam back down to bother other fisher people and eat anything they want to. The only other trip I made was offshore 20 miles where she went after the big Dolphin and I just watched that trip. Five miles out there you are in 300+ feet of water and the 100 fathom curve is just beyond that. Down here in Galveston it is 100 mile trip one way to get to that type of water so 20 miles out in Marathon we were in 2000+ feet of water. FISH FISH!!!

LOL...I used to fish halibut in Alaska. I understand the amount of work you were facing. Fought a monster for an hour and a half, got it to the boat... 6' ray, hooked in his bung hole! No wonder I had such a fight.

They went on a Tarpon trip one morning at the famed 7 mile bridge. Did not catch anything it was hit or miss we were not there for the Tarpon run missed it by a few weeks but there are still local Tarpon that hang around and some were being caught. So they come back and the boats leave again and they were suppose to go to a different bridge in the early evening and catch another tide change. Well, the boats leave and she was down at the dock and I tied on a Gold spoon and she came running up to the apartment saying a herd of Tarpon followed it to the dock. I tied on some Flourocarbon and a good hokk and went downstairs with her. Got some dead pin fish/piggie perch from one of the bait wells and threw out some and some Tarpon came up and ate them, so threw somw more out there and this time she threw one out with a hook in it and WHACKO!!! hooked up in the 60 to 80lb range. Put on a nice show and everyone came out to watch and take pictures and yell her on. The guys that work there told her they and their sons would be glad when she leaves because their kids have been trying for two months to catch a Tarpon and had not caught one yet. The daughter went 1 for two on the Tarpon right at the tackle shop dock and two more little Nurse Sharks and a whole bunch of Mangrove Snapper and nice Parrot fish.

On the way home there is a marina that is well known and I have never been there so we stopped in and bought some T-shirts to prove we were there at Bud&Mary's Marina in Islamorada. Bud and his kid/s are well known for their Tarpon, Swordfishing and Bone fishing charters. We bought our Ts and as I was backing out I noticed some folks cleaning fish and next to the fish cleaning table there was a sign that said feed the Tarpon. I asked the girls to go check it out and the wife snapped this picture. They said there were Tarpon in this bunch well over the 250lb range and a lot of them and also all size groups but any Tarpon over the 200lb range is HUGE!!!!

The Grouper in the one with the 4way was a monster too. The daughter told me it was huge, I do not remember at this point, so I guess we caught two monsters instead of one. It is kind of a blur. I am paying for it dearly now. Still doing stupid things like this it boggles or bottles the mind!!! The other picture I am not sure but I think it is a/the big one she got on her own with the Avet 50w loaded with 130lb braid. Yup I just notice my right hand, if you look closely you can see where the 125lb mono is buried in my hand. It left a mark and my hand still hurts from that big fish, it took a lot just to hold it there on top of the water. It was a beast!!!! FISH FISH!!

Indeed it was!! This was a trip we have had planned for 6 years and come hell or high water I was getting them down there. I wanted to see the daughter catch a huge Goliath and hook a Tarpon. She just finish 6 years of fulltime school right out of high school. She has just turned 24 and she now has her Masters Degree in Occupational Therapy. Parents are very proud of her!!!!

....excellent read and better pics!! You hit it on the nose about having to run hours off Galveston to hit those kind of waters. Glad ya'll had the chance to do that kind of fishing as well as stop by Bud and Mary's!

Great job. Kids fishing is the best. I looked over the derby results. An 11.8lb Triple Tail?? That is huge or was that a misprint? Thing must have been really wide!!
