Review of 4 snake boots over the last 12 years...

Do you think the Rocky type/brand would be good for just hunting and not every day use?

For occasional use when it is too child for snakes and I know I won't be stomping around the brush, I have a pair of wolverine hunting boots that are all cordura. They are very comfortable lace ups with some insulation and a gortex liner that I got at bass pro. They have done well except for the soles are already beginning to separate from the shoe bottom. I have used the shoe goo for these and will see how they do. This will be third season with occasional use.

I think a glue on sole is always a weak point that is why I was curious about the Justin's. You need a pedometer just for fun and see the miles you put on, I bet it might even surprise you?

I have to tell you your though reviews were very helpful, don't see that anywhere else.

I think I might actually try the pedometer, I'm curious and I do think I will probably surprise myself. Yea the glue on shoes are always a weak spot. That's why most fire rated boots are not glue on soles.

I'm really glad my review helped.

I have the Justin's with the dune leather foot and an older pair of Brownings that look like Chippewas with the leather foot and cordura upper. The Justin's are cooler in the usual south Texas heat as the leg is wider and allows air to pump in and out while you walk. They do take a while to break in but once broken in are very comfortable to walk in. The sole is tougher than the Chippewa. Mine are the standard round toe with tan nu buck looking foot. 9D boot fits like 9d shoes. Outdoor Country in Bishop Tx has great selection and pics online of almost all snake boots made except for Russell's if you can't find local. Web site is snakeboots.com

I have never been bit but if Ed has been struck 3 times and all strikes were at the ankle level maybe just your daily boots would be fine and "snake" boots may be more hype than reality?

I have only caught 1 rattlesnake in Texas, don't see many here where I am. I have caught a bunch of copperheads and a couple coral snakes though. I used to pick up prairie rattlers in Colorado, they would cover the roads. That's why my nephew nicknamed me RattleSnake Dan as a joke really because I always have rattler skins for my hat bands and put them on longbow limbs.

I use to go to the Rattlesnake Round up every year, what a hoot catching them.

Worse bite I ever got was when my wife and I got in an argument...I went outside and slept on a cot (stupid, yes). I got bit on the forearm by a brown recluse is what they say. Flesh would rot and bubble and puss would run down my arm all day. I wouldn't go to a doctor against everyone's wishes, but I prayed alot for healing! It was pretty gross but after a couple weeks the skin started growing back and you can't even see it now. Never did like spiders much.

This is great information. I'm moving deeper south in Texas and closer to Sweetwater where the rattlesnake roundup is held. Lots of under brush and rocks here for them to hide in. Thanks!

I want the Western style but w/o being able to try on first I am going to have to keep using the rocky style w laces and zipper.

My name is not Ed, it's Eric.

The boots yfarm has the picture of are the ones I would recommend getting and they are the ones I will get when my current "new" style Justin snake boots wear out soon.

This just makes me laugh a little cause I have to drive around 10 hours north just to get to sweetwater.

Eric, I do like the boots he has on, the round toe is certainly more comfortable in the field. I could not find those particular boots online.
