Amazing my man if this planet goes to hell I want to be hanging out with you and few others.So... what you end up with is this. A stave rough cut to the shape of a longbow. The riser is the bottom center, and the natural reflex of the stave pulls the ends away from the string... giving you more power from the strung bow as it's forced back the other direction... arcing against the natural pull of the wood. You end up with a faster arrow since power is applied all the way through until it leaves the string.
The final step in the stave prep process is to clamp it to the form to dry.
That's how you make a stave from a branch. The previous bow making link details how you take that stave and create the actual bow.
Sort of like the bumper sticker I saw today... "Where are we going? And, WHY am I in this hand basket?" I have LOTS of trading stock (when it comes to traditional bows). I quit counting at 30. LOL All different weight ranges too.Amazing my man if this planet goes to hell I want to be hanging out with you and few others.
Im using steelforce phatheads, they are pretty stout! What kind of broadhead is that? I switched to Steel Force about 10 years ago for hogs and if recovered you get to use them many times with a quick touch up! I need to get back out with my longbow. It's just like you said though, recovery is tough, usually no blood trail.
I used Zwickeys forever but I shot a black bear in the shoulder and the arrow bounced back to me and the broadhead was bent over and all the spotwelds were busted open. That's when i started looking for a stronger broadhead, I have never been super accurate with a longbow like some people so I need every advantage I need.
